NCLEX stands for National Council Licensure Examination. The NCLEX-RN is a standardised test that graduates of a registered nursing program must pass to earn a licence to practise as a Registered Nurse in the USA, Canada & Australia.
It is essential to understand that the NCLEX-RN exam is not designed to trick you or make you second-guess what you have learned in nursing school. It is a tool used to determine whether you have retained the information you were taught and can apply it to implement safe nursing practices.
Objectives of NCLEX- RN
- To determine if the candidate possesses the minimum level of knowledge necessary to perform safe and effective entry-level nursing care.
- It serves as a guide for examination development as well as candidate
- To assess the knowledge, skills and abilities that are essential for the entry-level nurse to use in order to meet the needs of clients requiring the promotion, maintenance or restoration of health.
- To assess a candidate's ability to provide safe, effective nursing care upon entry into practice .
